Government Wants To Save You Money
The Stimulus Package signed by the President may have seemed like a Valentine’s Day gift to first time homebuyers with the much heralded tax credit. Another interesting part of the bill targets $50B to a clean energy future.
$5b is put towards weatherizing over one million modest-income homes. This is separate from the Federal Tax Credits For Energy Efficiency which allow homeowners to receive rebates on improving their home’s efficiency - items like new windows, water heaters and solar panels.
Simple weatherization is hoped to save each home an average of $350 in energy bills - every dollar spent is reported to save $3 from utility bills. It can be as simple as caulking, adding weather strips and insulation or tuning up HVAC equipment.
If you’re thinking of selling your Austin home in the future, one increasingly popular way to increase its market value is to perform an energy audit and increase its energy efficiency. Buyers love a home that has a demonstrable history of low utility bills!
